Refractor Engine

Refractor Engine is a game engine developed by Digital Illusions CE (DICE) and used in titles such as Battlefield 1942 and Battlefield 2. It was revolutionary at the time for its ability to manage large maps and destructible environments in tactical warfare games. Its advanced physics system and support for large-scale multiplayer made it a key technology in the evolution of first-person shooters. Although it has been replaced by more modern engines, Refractor Engine left a mark on the industry and laid the foundation for the development of future Battlefield installments.
