Mission within the CMT context:

Detect and perform initial handling of events on servers and virtualization platforms, distinguishing between operating system, computational resource, service, or application failures, and executing standardized containment procedures before escalation to L2/L3.

Key responsibilities:

  • Detect and perform initial handling of events on servers and virtualization platforms;
  • Distinguish between operating system, computational resource, service, or application failures;
  • Execute standardized containment procedures before escalation to L2/L3;
  • Interpret logs and performance metrics to correlate with alerts;
  • Verify the status of services, monitoring agents, and virtualized environments.

Essential knowledge:

Windows Server

  • Operational administration: services (services.msc), scheduled tasks, disk management, and cluster status reading;
  • Event Viewer: navigation and interpretation of system, application, and security logs;
  • Performance Monitor and Task Manager: identification of CPU, memory, disk, and network bottlenecks;
  • Active Directory at an operational level: replication, authentication, account lockout, and domain controller failure symptoms;
  • Basic understanding of GPO reading to identify applied policies as a probable cause without modifying them;
  • PowerShell at script execution and reading level, with the ability to interpret output;
  • Microsoft infrastructure services: IIS, DNS, DHCP, and File Server at a status verification level.

Linux

  • Service management with systemd (systemctl status, start, restart) and log reading via journalctl;
  • Performance analysis with top, htop, vmstat, iostat, free, uptime, and interpretation of load average;
  • Space and filesystem management: df, du, identification of full partitions and exhausted inodes;
  • Reading logs in /var/log (messages, syslog, secure) and correlating them with monitored events;
  • Permissions, file ownership, and user/group concepts;
  • Processes and signals: ps, kill, verification of stuck or zombie processes;
  • Connectivity and services: ss/netstat, verification of listening ports, socket testing;
  • Shell scripting at a reading and runbook execution level; cron for verifying scheduled routines.

Unix

  • Understanding of operational differences between Linux and commercial Unix (AIX, Solaris, HP-UX);
  • Basic navigation and diagnostics in legacy Unix environments, common in mission-critical platforms in the energy sector.

Virtualization and agents

  • VMware vSphere: reading alarms, verifying datastores, host and VM status, understanding vMotion and HA concepts;
  • Hyper-V and Citrix at a status and session verification level;
  • Monitoring agents: Zabbix Agent and Dynatrace OneAgent — status verification, causes of agent offline status, and impact on false positives.

Desirable knowledge:

  • Microsoft AZ-800/AZ-801 certifications or equivalent Windows Server certification;
  • LPIC-1 or Red Hat RHCSA for Linux;
  • Basic understanding of containers (Docker, Kubernetes) at a status reading level;
  • Experience with verification automation via PowerShell, Bash, or Ansible.

What is not part of this role:

  • Installation, hardening, or patching of servers;
  • Kernel tuning, performance parameter adjustment, or capacity planning;
  • Active Directory administration involving structural changes, GPOs, or schema modifications;
  • Backup restoration and disaster recovery.
