Mission:

Monitor the operational health of database instances, identify degradation and unavailability, execute standardized verification and containment procedures, and escalate to the DBA team with sufficient diagnosis and evidence to accelerate resolution.

Key Responsibilities:

• Monitor the operational health of database instances;
• Differentiate between unavailability and degradation to classify severity;
• Track the growth of datafiles, transaction logs, and temporary areas;
• Verify the status of backup and replication jobs, considering RPO and lag;
• Analyze active connections, locks, and connection pool exhaustion;
• Read dashboards and templates in Zabbix and Dynatrace, identifying false positives;
• Query administrative views using read-only SQL;
• Escalate incidents to the DBA team with structured diagnostics.

Essential Knowledge:

Cross-functional Fundamentals

• Concepts of instance, database, session, transaction, lock, and deadlock;
• Monitoring disk space and temporary areas;
• Verification of backup and replication jobs;
• Analysis of connections and blocked sessions;
• Use of Zabbix and Dynatrace for monitoring;
• SQL for querying administrative views, without modifying data.

Oracle

• Operational architecture: instance, tablespace, datafile, redo log, and archive log;
• Reading alert logs and interpreting ORA-00257, ORA-01555, and ORA-01652;
• Querying dynamic views such as v$session, v$instance, and v$database;
• Verification of listener, RMAN, Data Guard, and ASM.

Microsoft SQL Server

• SQL Server Management Studio and SQL Server Agent;
• SQL Server Error Log and Event Viewer;
• DMVs such as sys.dm_exec_requests, sys.dm_exec_sessions, and sys.dm_os_wait_stats;
• AlwaysOn Availability Groups, Failover Cluster, and Log Shipping.

MySQL

• Verification of service, instance, and error log;
• SHOW PROCESSLIST and SHOW ENGINE INNODB STATUS;
• Slow query log and SHOW REPLICA STATUS;
• Basic knowledge of InnoDB, buffer pool, and ibdata growth.

Differentials

• Oracle Database Administration Associate or Microsoft DP-300 certification;
• Prior experience in an environment with multiple database platforms;
• Basic knowledge of NoSQL databases and cloud databases;
• Familiarity with SAP environments from a database infrastructure perspective.

What is NOT expected for this position:

This position does not include query tuning, data modeling, executing restore or recovery, changing parameters, applying patches, or any write operations in production. Access is exclusively read-only.
