Candidate FAQ

How GeekHunter works for candidates — signing up, applying, company invitations, your profile and your account.

Account and sign-up

How do I create a GeekHunter account?

You can create your GeekHunter account in two ways: through the sign-up page or by applying to a job on the job board. When you apply, the account is created along with your application.

Either way you send your CV and receive an e-mail to set your password. From then on, you can access your profile on the platform.

Where do I send my CV?

Send your CV through the GeekHunter platform — on the sign-up page or when you apply to a job. GeekHunter does not accept CVs by e-mail, and messages with an attached CV do not enter any selection process.

We use your CV to build your professional profile, which is what companies see.

How do I change my password?

Change your password when editing your profile on the GeekHunter platform. If you do not remember your current password, use the password recovery instead.

I forgot my password. How do I get back in?

Use GeekHunter’s password recovery. You receive an e-mail with a link to set a new password, and can then sign in normally from the login page.

If the e-mail does not arrive within a few minutes, check your spam folder and see I am not receiving e-mails.

How do I delete my account and my data?

Request account deletion in your account settings, inside your GeekHunter profile. Deleting closes your account and removes your profile from company searches.

If you only want to stop appearing in company searches without losing your account, use profile visibility instead. If you cannot sign in at all, see how to delete your data without access.

How do I delete my personal data if I cannot access my account?

You do not need access to your account to request deletion. Send the request to our DPO (data protection officer) at [email protected], stating that you are a data subject requesting deletion of your personal data.

Before deleting any data we confirm that the request really comes from the data subject, so we may ask for additional information to validate your identity. That step exists precisely so that nobody can request the deletion of your data by impersonating you.

If the problem is only access, fixing that is usually faster than opening a request: see I forgot my password. To understand which data GeekHunter processes and for how long, read the Privacy Policy.

Jobs and applications

What kind of jobs will I find on GeekHunter?

On GeekHunter you will find technology roles and roles in other fields, posted by the companies that use the platform.

They cover a range of experience levels, in remote, hybrid and on-site work models. Contract types include CLT and PJ (the two Brazilian employment models), internship, apprenticeship and fixed-term, and each posting states which one applies.

Many postings publish a salary range — on the job board you can filter by range and choose whether to include the ones that do not disclose it.

Where can I see the open jobs?

Every open role is on the GeekHunter job board, filterable by seniority, work model (remote, hybrid or on-site), city and salary range.

To search by technology, use the search field: it matches the job title first, then the required technologies, then the description — searching for “React” or “Python”, for example, returns the roles asking for that stack.

We also post roles regularly on GeekHunter’s LinkedIn and Instagram. The job board is always the complete, current list — social posts show a selection, so check the board before concluding that a role is gone.

How do I apply to a job?

Find the job on the job board, open it to see the details, fill in the form and submit your application. Some jobs include screening questions set by the company.

If you are already signed in, the form arrives prefilled with your profile data: review the information, choose whether to use the CV already on your profile or upload a new one, and submit. Your application is confirmed immediately, with no extra step.

If you are not signed in, one required step remains: confirm your application through the link in the e-mail we send. Without that confirmation, it is not sent to the company. Signing in before you apply avoids this step.

I got an error submitting my application. What should I do?

Start with your CV, which is the most common cause: the file has to be a PDF of up to 3 MB. Other formats are not accepted, and a larger file is rejected on upload.

Then check that every required field is filled in, including the job’s screening questions if it has any. If you see a generic error screen, reload the page with Ctrl+F5 (or Cmd+Shift+R on a Mac) and submit again — that clears failures caused by your browser holding an outdated version of the page.

If the error persists, contact support and describe the job and the message you saw. Do not e-mail your CV: GeekHunter does not accept applications through that channel.

I applied but my application does not show up. What happened?

If you applied while not signed in, the application most likely still needs to be confirmed by e-mail: in that case it is only sent to the company after you click the confirmation link we send. Applications made from a signed-in account are confirmed immediately and skip that e-mail.

Look for the confirmation e-mail in your inbox and in spam. If it never arrived, see I am not receiving e-mails and then apply again — ideally signed in to your account.

Can I send different CVs to different jobs?

Yes. Each application keeps the CV you sent with it: the recruiter for that job sees exactly the file that came with your application.

What changes is your profile. GeekHunter always shows the most recent CV you sent, and your profile information is updated from that one — so the last CV you upload becomes what represents you in company searches.

So if you tailor your CV to a specific job, keep everything in it that you want companies to see: a trimmed-down CV sent to one job also becomes your profile CV.

I do not live in Brazil. Can I still apply for jobs?

Yes, you can create a profile and apply from any country — GeekHunter serves candidates in Brazil and across Latin America, and the platform is available in Portuguese, English and Spanish.

What decides whether you can take part is each job, not your country of residence. Every posting states its location, its work model (remote, hybrid or on-site) and the contract type: remote roles are often restricted to one country or even one city, and CLT (Brazilian employee) contracts require the right to work in Brazil.

On the job board you can filter by work model and city to see only the roles that fit your situation. When in doubt about a specific job, confirm with the recruiter.

How do I track my applications?

Track your applications in your logged-in area on GeekHunter, which you reach from the login page. Every update is also sent to your registered e-mail.

Can I cancel an application?

No. Once submitted, an application cannot be deleted on GeekHunter.

If a company sends you an invitation and you are no longer interested, you can decline the invitation. To leave company searches altogether, adjust your profile visibility.

Can I apply to the same job twice? And how do I change the information I sent?

You cannot apply to the same job twice. If you submit a new application for a job you already applied to, it is ignored and you receive an e-mail letting you know your application was already registered — the details from the second attempt do not replace the first.

To update your information — experience, technologies, phone, salary expectation or CV — edit your profile in your logged-in area. The updated profile is what companies find in searches and what counts for your next applications.

If you need to correct something in a process already under way, talk to the recruiter for that job — their e-mail is on the invitation, in your invitations area — or contact support.

I applied and got no reply. What should I do?

The decision and the response time belong to the company, not to GeekHunter. Every selection process moves at its own pace, and it is normal for a company to take days, or even a few weeks, to review applications and get back to you — especially on roles with many candidates.

In the meantime, keep your profile complete and up to date — that is what makes you appear in company searches — and keep applying to other roles. You can take part in several processes at once.

Company invitations

A company sent me an invitation. What do I do now?

An invitation means a company saw your profile on GeekHunter and wants to move forward with you for a role. You have 7 days to accept or decline.

Open it in your invitations area to see the salary, contract model, location and job description before deciding. Accepting confirms your interest and the company moves the selection process forward.

How long do I have to respond to an invitation?

7 days. Every GeekHunter invitation is valid for 7 days from the moment it is sent. After that the invitation expires: it is not declined on your behalf, it simply can no longer be answered, and the company sees it as expired.

The countdown appears on the invitation itself, in your invitations area. We send reminders by e-mail and, if you allow it, by WhatsApp.

My invitation link says it expired. What now?

The “Invite Expired!” message means one thing only: the 7-day window closed without an answer. The screen itself shows the date the invitation expired.

If the invitation had already been answered, the message would be a different one — “Invite Already Accepted!” or “Invite Already Declined!” — and in that case the answer on record cannot be changed from there. Check the status of all your invitations in your invitations area.

An expired invitation cannot be reopened by you, and applying to the role does not work around it: because the company already registered you on that job when it sent the invitation, a new application to the same job is ignored (see applying to the same job twice).

If you are still interested, write directly to the recruiter — their e-mail came with the invitation — or contact support. Only the company can pick the process back up for that role.

Can I accept more than one invitation at a time?

Yes. You can accept as many invitations as you like on GeekHunter and take part in several selection processes at once, deciding along the way which one fits you best.

How do I decline an invitation?

Open the invitation in your invitations area and choose to decline. Declining does not harm your profile and does not stop the same company from inviting you to another role later.

Declining is better than letting the deadline pass: the company gets your answer immediately and stops waiting.

How do I contact the company that invited me?

The recruiter’s e-mail address is available on the invitation itself, in your invitations area on GeekHunter, as soon as you receive it.

If you accepted the invitation over WhatsApp, the recruiter’s e-mail comes in the confirmation message.

Interviews are not scheduled or sent by GeekHunter. Scheduling is handled entirely by the company, which sends you the invitation and the link directly, usually by e-mail. There is no interview calendar inside the platform — so there is nothing to look for there.

The link may arrive only minutes before the scheduled time. Check the inbox and the spam folder of the e-mail address registered on your account.

If the time has passed and the company has not been in touch, write directly to the recruiter, at the e-mail address that came with the invitation.

Profile and visibility

How do I improve my GeekHunter profile?

Complete profiles appear more often in company searches. Keep these up to date: work experience, education, the technologies you know, salary expectation, preferred work model and your LinkedIn URL.

It is worth reviewing your profile whenever you change jobs, learn a new technology or revise your salary expectation.

Why is a LinkedIn URL required?

Companies use LinkedIn to check your professional background, whether or not an invitation is involved: both when searching profiles in the GeekHunter talent pool and when reviewing the applications to a job.

That is why the field is required on both paths — when you create your account and when you apply to a job. If you do not have a LinkedIn account yet, see I do not have LinkedIn.

I do not have a LinkedIn account. Can I still apply?

You need a LinkedIn account to apply through GeekHunter: the profile URL is required both at sign-up and on the application form, and neither can be submitted without it. Creating a LinkedIn account is free and takes a few minutes — with your CV at hand, it is just a matter of filling in your experience.

Enter the address of your personal profile, in the linkedin.com/in/your-name form. Links to posts, to company pages or to your LinkedIn home feed are not accepted at sign-up.

How do I decide my salary expectation?

Research the market average for your role, seniority and region using reliable sources, then give GeekHunter a range consistent with your experience and with what you expect from a new opportunity.

Mind the contract type: in Brazil, CLT (employee) and PJ (contractor) figures are not directly comparable, because the benefits, taxes and costs differ. A PJ salary is usually nominally higher to offset benefits you then pay for yourself.

Why is my profile invisible to companies?

A GeekHunter profile is invisible for one of three reasons:

1. You were hired by a company through GeekHunter — the profile stays invisible for at least 1 year, while you keep working in that role. 2. You turned visibility off yourself in your profile settings. 3. Your last two invitations expired without an answer — in that case your profile stops appearing in company searches.

So it is worth answering the invitations you receive, even when the role does not interest you: declining counts as an answer and does not affect your profile’s visibility. What counts against it is letting the deadline run out without replying.

To appear again, see how to restore visibility.

How do I make my profile visible again?

If you turned visibility off yourself, turn it back on in the visibility setting of your GeekHunter profile.

If your profile became invisible because you were hired through GeekHunter, ask support to restore it once 1 year has passed since the hire, or once your employment with that company ends — whichever comes first.

I was hired through GeekHunter. What happens to my profile?

Your profile becomes invisible to companies for at least 1 year after the hire, while you keep working in that role. Your account stays active and your data stays on your profile.

After that period, or if the job ends sooner, see how to restore visibility.

Notifications and contact

How does GeekHunter notify me about invitations and processes?

The important notifications go to the e-mail address registered on your account — so keep it up to date.

You can also receive notifications by WhatsApp, by enabling that permission in your account settings.

How do I reply to the selection-process update e-mails?

Those e-mails are automatic and do not accept replies (no-reply).

To discuss a process already under way, write directly to the recruiter — their e-mail is on the invitation (see how to contact the company that invited me).

If you do not have the recruiter’s e-mail, or you need help with your account and your applications, contact support.

I am not receiving GeekHunter e-mails. What do I do?

Check spam and junk, search for “GeekHunter” across all folders, and make sure our senders are not blocked. Adding our address to your contacts helps too.

Do not unsubscribe from our communications. They include essential messages: password resets, application confirmations, company invitations and selection-process updates.

If you have already unsubscribed, ask support to re-enable your communications — you cannot reverse it yourself.
