Tasks and Responsibilities

We are looking for a senior software developer, with a front-end focus, to create and improve the interfaces of ITpS digital products. You will be part of a multidisciplinary team and work on solutions that transform scientific and epidemiological data into useful information for different audiences.

We are looking for someone able to translate complex surveillance needs into clear, accessible, and reliable experiences. We expect autonomy to make decisions, monitor solutions in production, and contribute to the technical growth of the team. Leadership will be technical, with involvement in architecture, code review, mentoring, and delivery coordination; the role does not involve formal people management.

Responsibilities:

  • Develop, test, document, and improve web applications using React and TypeScript.
  • Translate epidemiology and public health needs into flows, filters, and visualizations that are easy to understand for technical and non-technical audiences.
  • Guide front-end architecture, the evolution of reusable components, and design system consistency across products.
  • Integrate interfaces with ITpS APIs, with proper handling of authentication, pagination, caching, and loading, error, unavailability, and no-data states.
  • Build dashboards, time series, maps, tables, and forms that maintain good performance even with large volumes of data.
  • Incorporate accessibility from the beginning of development, using WCAG 2.2, Level AA, as a reference.
  • Define a testing strategy proportional to risk and monitor performance and errors in production, identifying their causes and verifying fixes.
  • Apply risk-proportional controls to the handling of personal and sensitive data displayed or collected by the interfaces, in compliance with LGPD and applicable ethical standards.
  • Conduct code reviews, document relevant decisions, and support the development of other team members.
  • Work in partnership with product, design, backend, infrastructure, data, epidemiology, and partner institutions.

Requirements:

  • Strong experience developing and maintaining production web applications with React and TypeScript.
  • Mastery of semantic HTML, CSS, JavaScript, responsiveness, and browser behavior.
  • Experience with component architecture, state management, and API integration.
  • Experience with data-driven interfaces, such as dashboards, charts, maps, or large tables.
  • Experience with Git, automated testing, and the ability to choose the appropriate level of coverage for each risk.
  • Applied knowledge of digital accessibility and browser performance optimization.
  • Ability to diagnose production issues based on evidence and communicate technical decisions clearly.
  • Experience with code review and technical support for other people.
  • Knowledge of best practices for handling personal and sensitive data.
  • Ability to read technical documentation in English.

Preferred qualifications:

  • Experience in public health, epidemiological surveillance, government data, or other regulated contexts.
  • Experience with visualization or mapping libraries, such as ECharts, Plotly, Recharts, D3, Leaflet, or MapLibre.
  • Experience with Next.js, Storybook, progressive web applications (PWA), or offline functionality.
  • Knowledge of eMAG, information design, or statistical visualization.

Behavioral competencies

  • Ethical and respectful professional conduct, with courtesy in interactions, respect for diversity, and care with confidential information.
  • Ability to work in multidisciplinary teams, collaborating on deliveries, valuing different perspectives, and recognizing others' contributions.
  • Willingness to share knowledge, document learnings, and support colleagues' development, reducing dependence on individual knowledge.
  • Clear and respectful communication, with active listening to understand needs, clarify questions, and align expectations.
  • Openness to give and receive constructive feedback and handle disagreements through dialogue, with a focus on solving problems.
  • Organization and responsibility with deadlines and commitments, communicating difficulties and risks in advance and requesting support when necessary.
  • Willingness to learn continuously and adapt to changes, recognizing limitations and incorporating team contributions.
  • Interest in applying technology to public health. Prior experience in the health sector is not required.
